Watch Bake Create - Transport

 

 

This week focuses on transport and we have:

Traffic Light Biscuits

 

 

Ingredients

Biscuits
4oz butter
3oz sugar
2 tbsp golden syrup
11oz flour
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla extract

Decoration
Smarties/M&Ms/Skittles/crushed lollipops/jams
(anything you wish to use that is red, orange and green!)

Method

• Preheat the oven to 170 degrees
• Combine all of the biscuit ingredients together in a bowl to create you biscuit dough
• Roll it out to around 2cm in thickness and cut out rectangles 3cm by 8cm in size
• Using a small circular object cut out three circles from each biscuit (we used a piping nozzle)
• Cook the biscuits for around 10 minutes then remove from the oven, add your sweet decorations into the three holes and bake for another 3 minutes
• Allow to cool
• Scoff!

We popped a few of ours onto sticks which were great to use with some toy cars in the garden when we had a picnic!

Cardboard Space Ship House

Jamster had asked for a new home for some Moshi Monsters figures so I decided to create one quickly from a box that I had spare, rather than just buying one on this occasion! It takes a few minutes to create but if it saves some pennies towards days out this summer then it's definitely worth it.

Equipment

Cardboard
Pencil
Scissors
Paint
Objects to decorate (anything you wish to add)

Method

• Cut out two large, curved, triangle shapes using the cardboard, 2 smaller sized versions (then cut down the centre to create 4 pieces) and 3 different sized circles to use as platforms/levels.
• Cut 4 slits in each circle, a quarter of the way round.
• Cut a slit from the top to a third of the way down on one of the large triangles and from the bottom to two thirds up on the other. Then cut three horizontal slits in them using the circles diameters as the measurements
• Paint the pieces and allow to dry fully
• Assemble the space ship by slotting the two large pieces together and inserting the round bases into the slots
• Decorate and play!

He spent the majority of his life dreaming of travel with his wife but after she passed away he finally got round to doing it in an extraordinary way. Teamed with 8 year old Junior Wilderness Explorer Russell he encounters wild terrain, villains (and their talking dogs) and strange jungle creatures.

Worm Covered Cupcakes

These delicious biscuit and sweet covered cupcakes are really simple to create and are ideal for themed parties and Halloween.

Ingredients

Cupcakes

2 eggs

4oz sugar

4oz self raising flour

4oz butter

1 tsp vanilla extract

Decoration
5 1/2oz butter
1lb 2oz icing sugar
45ml milk

Oreo biscuits

Worm sweets

Method

• Preheat the oven to 180 degrees
• Combine all of the cupcake ingredients (butter, eggs, flour, sugar and vanilla) together in a bowl to create you cake mixture
• Divide the mixture equally between 12 cupcake cases in a cupcake baking tray
• Cook for around 12-15 minutes until risen and golden
• Allow to cool
• Create your icing by mixing together the icing sugar, butter (softened) and milk in a bowl
• Apply to the cakes
• Crumble up the Oreo biscuits and sprinkle over the icing to look like mud
• Add your sweet worms on top
• Scoff!

Watch Bake Create - Dogs

 

This week focuses on Dogs and we have:

Watched Hotel for Dogs

Hot Dogs

Dog shaped rolls with a sausage inside - these went down really well in the Mini Mes' lunch boxes as an alternative to sandwiches!

Ingredients
500g flour
270ml tepid water
10g yeast
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
Raisins
Sausages

Method

• Preheat the oven to 180 degrees
• Use the flour to create a well in a bowl and add the yeast, sugar and salt together in the centre
• Gradually add in the tepid water and combine to form a dough
• Knead for 3-4 minutes until elastic in texture on a floured surface
• Cover and leave for 30 minutes to rise
• Knock back by hitting the dough for around 30 seconds
• Split the dough into 12 balls and place on a baking tray
• Flatten them slightly and shape them to make them oval
• Cover and leave to rise again for 15 minutes
• Cut two lines in each oval to create ears and add three raisins for the eyes and nose
• Cook for around 12 minutes until lightly golden in colour
• Leave to cool for a few minutes
• Slice the roll and add in your sausage (and any butter, sauce and salad)
• Scoff!

Handprint Dogs

 

A very simple and quick activity for children - ideal for pre-schoolers in particular.

 

Equipment

Paper
Pencils
Wobbly eyes
Glue
Pom Pom (optional)
 

Method

Place your child's hand on a piece of paper with the three centre figures together and the little finger and thumb spread out
Draw around it.
Add patches of colours/spots to the dog
Glue on wobbly eyes
Glue on a pom pom for the nose or colour it black

A brother and sister duo, Andi and Bruce, are not allowed pets at their foster home but they have been secretly looking after a dog named Friday for some time. When they come across an abandoned hotel they soon realise it's the perfect shelter for their poochie and are soon joined by many other dogs too. Watch, Bake, Create - Dinosaurs

This is an activity link up where you can share your recipes and crafts based around a particular theme. This week focuses on dinosaurs and we have made Fossil Cookies, D is for Dinosaur Window Art and watched Dinosaur DVD.

Dinosaur Fossil Cookies

Using a basic cookie recipe we transformed ordinary biscuits into fossil food! With the Mini Mes dinosaur toys, we pushed their feet deep into the cookies, almost all the way through, to create prints within them.

 

 

Ingredients
225g butter       
110g caster sugar
275g plain flour

• Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.
• Combine the ingredients together to form a dough.
• Roll into small balls and flatten slightly (to around 1cm thickness maximum).
• Push the toys into the cookie rounds to create the prints.
• Cook for 12-15 minutes until golden.
• Scoff!

D is for Dinosaur Window Art

With a capital D for the body, this cellophane dinosaur craft not only helps to teach about the alphabet but is pretty to display in windows to allow different colours to shine through into your room.
 

 

Equipment

Card

Pens

Scissors

Glue

Cellophane

 

Method

Draw a large capital d onto the card and cut it out, removing the centre too.

Using the D as a template, cut out a piece of cellophane the same size.

Attach the cellophane to the D using the glue.

Draw feet, a tail and neck with head onto the card, cut out and attach to the D with glue.

Draw on facial features, toes etc.

Allow a few minutes to dry completely.

Display in your window.

This movie is a family favourite where a group of dinosaurs face several challenges and learn about the importance of friendship along the way.

 

Aladar the iguanodon, separated from his parents as an egg, is raised by lemurs within a jungle. After a meteor shower destroys his homeland his journey begins to find a safe place to live.
