Elf on the Shelf.... The arrival

Peppy Tum-Tums, our randomly named Elf on the Shelf, has arrived and what an entrance it was.
He first appeared with personalised advent calendars in tow, a sleigh with reindeer, snow, his passport and a poem to introduce himself too - I'm quite impressed...

... If only the kids knew how much effort I make!

What an elf should be; cheeky yet helpful!

The Mini Mes had been asking about him after receiving a letter from Santa on Saturday mentioning a cheeky little helper of his was on the way to stay. The build up was quite exciting as they wondered who or what may be arriving and seeing their faces when they first saw him was amazing.

Why didn't I do this before?!

I'm looking forward to seeing what mischief he gets up to already. I think pants hung on the Christmas tree, a decorated toilet and lots of treats are on the way!

What has your elf been up to so far?
You can link your posts below if you have written about him (or her!).

If you haven't got an elf yet but you want to join in, there is still time to head over to Pure Baby to purchase yours!

The poem about the job of an elf is our entry into the Tots100 and Center Parcs competition

How the Mini Mes see me

I was tagged by the lovely Family Four Fun to join in with a great meme based on how our children view us. I love the Mini Mes doodles so this is one I was keen to join in with especially to see what they thought about me... eek!!

Jamster's picture...

I'd hoped the open arms were due to always being there for hugs but apparently it's because 'you are quite big mum' Cheers son!

I'd also hoped the bald patch was just a minor sketching error but 'you will be bald soon as you are getting old mum' .... again, thanks! I'm only 27.

Atleast I'm smiling in the picture.

Minxy's picture...

The hair here is about right as I have a side parting meaning one side is thicker at the front usually.
The big ears are unfortunately accurate too!
I was told that 'You're not grumpy mum you just have big lips from your lip gloss'. Again probably right! I did ask why I didn't have any clothes and Minxy said ' Your boobs are always hanging out anyway'. Perhaps I shouldn't have asked!

Anyone is welcome to join in and link up but I'd like to tag...

Knowing Me, Knowing You Meme

I've been blogging for around 8 months now which seems to have flown by but I still feel like quite a newbie to the blogosphere.

This meme was created to help bring bloggers together, especially new ones, to help build friendships and to learn a few facts about the person behind the blog posts.

Me and my blog badge

The rules
  • Select 5 other deserving blogs with less than 250 subscribers to nominate and link their blogs in your post.
  • Post 5 random facts about yourself.
  • Tell your nominees you have chosen them for this award by leaving a comment on their blogs or tweeting.
  • Answer the 5 questions the tagger has asked you and ask your own 5 questions to the people you nominate.

5 Random facts about me:

I actually wrote a post about this previously so rather than adding the same facts here you can pop over to my post and delve into my world... and see some incredible bruises in the process!

5 Questions I was asked to answer:

What’s the funniest thing any of your children have said lately?
They are forever coming out with cracking one liners that make me giggle but Jamster and I had a wonderful conversation the other day about how farts are made!

What’s the best thing about motherhood for you?
Seeing them grow and achieve and learn is incredibly rewarding but of course when they come for cuddles and tell you they love you it's amazing. It makes you feel so needed and appreciated.

What skill/talent have you got that few people know about or that you have forgotten you had?
I can lick my nose with my tongue and bend my thumbs back to touch my hand.

What’s your best blog post? (in your estimation – do not count how many hits or likes you’ve had).
Ooo that's a hard one as my blog is quite a mixture of everything. Not a post in particular, but I like writing my weekly reasons to be cheerful, purely because they make me realise how lucky I am and how much I have to smile about.

What’s the best way you’ve found to encourage a child to eat something they don’t like?
By making food fun. I don't mean in terms of  'here comes the big aeroplane' but instead making it look nice, themed lunches etc.

I am tagging the following 5 people to take part in this meme....

And the questions I ask you are....
What is the most embarrassing experience you have ever had?
What is your most treasured childhood memory?
What is your favourite meal?
If you could go to any destination in the world where would it be and why?
If you could wish for one thing for your child what would it be?

If you add your link below once you have done it I can pop over for a look!

Why... Meme

I've been tagged by newbie blogger Nikki over at The Girl Next Door to join in with the 'Why' meme. This meme enables you to share all of the questions you would love to ask your children. I wonder how many of these you have thought about too!

Here goes...

Why do you make even more noise when I've told you I'm on the phone?

Why do you say 'nothing' when I ask what you have done at school each day?

Why do you never want to get out of bed on a school day but get up early at the weekend?

Why do you thinking farting is hilarious?

Why do you always talk with your mouth full?

Why do you always call me upstairs to pass you your drink when it's literally within arms reach?

Why do you always ask me to sniff your hands when you have been to the toilet to smell the candyfloss handwash?

Why do you always tell me not to cut your toast in two then struggle to eat a huge slice?

Why do you say you hate me if I say 'no' to something?

Why do you make such a fuss to eat your vegetables?

I'm tagging a few people to join in, I'd love to hear what you would ask!

If you choose to create a post (or have already), pop back and add your url in the comment box and I'll pop over for a nosey!

If I were a romantic movie... meme

The fab Umar from Trinket of Treasure has invited me to join in with her 'If I were' Meme about romantic movies *wit woo*. I'm a bit more of a sci-fi lover really (they usually end tragically though) but I have seen a fair few in my time so it got me thinking, which should I choose!?

If I were… A Romantic Movie
I would be 'The Ugly Truth' starring Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler.

Description:
Katherine plays Abby, a successful tv show producer looking for love. Mike, played by the rather tasty Gerard Butler is the shows star and is convinved that Katherine can't find the man of her dreams, as afterall men only want one thing don't they? However after providing advice to Katherine to pull the sexy doctor next door and a few bizarre dating experiences they both end up falling for eachother instead.
Reasons for my choice:
It's romantic without the mush. It's a fantastic, funny romantic comedy and it helps to show that life rarely goes how you expect it to, but that's not always for the worse. Love can sometimes be right infront of you without you even realising. Those that may irritate you or embarrass you may actually be the love of your life. Sometimes you just need to take the time to discover that there is more to people than you think. Don't judge a book by it's cover and all that!

So, that’s me done! I'm going to tag a few people to join in and if you would like to create a post you can pop the link in the comments below once you're done and I'll pop over for a read and a nosey at your blog.

Monday Me #2

TheMiniMesandMe
Monday is here again.... so soon booo! But last week I had some quality me time to enjoy yay.
I had an entire child free weekend - yes that's right Friday afternoon until Sunday evening without the Mini Mes and we definately made the most of it!

Friday night was a relaxing evening in. I enjoyed a bottle of Blossom Hill and we watched The Mechanic again with the very hot Mr Statham as eye candy! Definately dig the rough and ruggid look, phroar! The Mr cooked a lovely turkey lasagne for dinner (not quite what the meal planner had in order but anyway) so it was a proper feet-up-do-nothing night.

Saturday I enjoyed a peaceful lay in and was brought a Cadbury's hot chocolate in bed mid morning and sausage sandwiches. The Mr spoils me! We were going to a darts tournament but we ended up having a look around Homebase, Halfords and Argos for a few bits for the home instead as a lot of people we knew had dropped out. In the evening we headed to the pub where we met up with my brother and parents and had a few vodka and orange juices and played darts.

I woke hangover free Sunday morning yay and we had more sausage sandwiches (uh oh my waistline will suffer at this rate). In the afternoon we went to the Huntsman in Dunchurch to celebrate my cousins 18th birthday. There were 16 of us in total and the food was amazing! Despite being an all you can eat cavery I behaved and had one plate ... but then induldged with a delicious extravaganza dessert. You know it's big when the waitress asks if you are sharing. But I wasn't OINK! Oops but yum.

What have you enjoyed this week that was for you? I hope you managed to enjoy some time to yourself. You can read more about the link up here.

Please link up below and I'll pop over to your page for a nosey! You can grab the badge on the right.

How and when do you find the time to... Meme

I've been tagged by the lovely Two of Everything to continue the 'How and when do you find the time to' meme that was created by Sex, Drugs, Rocker and... Stroller.
Rules:
  • Please post the rules.
  • When answering the questions, please give as much detail as possible!
  • Leave a comment on Sex, Drugs, Rocker and...Stroller, so we can keep track of the meme and I can totally steal your routine tips to make my world a happier place.
  • Also if you want (and I'd really like you to!) add a little paragraph at the bottom to give a general summing up about your weekly routine!
  • Tag 3 or more people and link to them on your blog.
  • Tweet tweet tweet #howdoyoufindthetimetomeme
Here goes...
How and when do you find the time to...
....do your laundry?
The basket sits at the top of the stairs and when its nearly filled, generally every other day with all the Mr's work clothes too, I wash it and put it on the airer. I also do a Friday load of all the school uniform so its all fresh and put away for the following week.
....write a blog post?
At the moment I'm only working a few hours a week and as the kids are at school I have a fair bit of time to do as I please. I don't blog in the evenings or the weekends, that's my time with the Mr to relax together and chat - I might schedule some things to go up then though.
....look after yourself...i.e. wash your hair, paint your nails, take a bubble bath etc?
My nails are acrylic so they only need maintaining once a month really, which is a 40 min session at my fav beauty place Creative Nails. My hair I wash every other day and leave to dry naturally and I then straighten it in the morning before the school run. I can have a bath easily in the evening as the kids are sound asleep 8pm-7.45am.... peace!

....spend time with your other half?
I get the evenings with him once he has finished work and the kids are in bed. I'm not with the kids biological father, haven't been for over 5 years now, so every other weekend and 2 wednesdays a month they go to him which is our couple time. We enjoy going to the cinema, playing darts and catching up with family or just having a movie night in with some good food and wine!
....do fun stuff with your LO?
After school if the weather is nice we play in the garden, fields or park, go out on scooters or bikes or fly the kites. If the weather isn't so great we like to do baking an crafts indoors. We also like to play board games from time to time or cards. It's nice that the Mini Mes are 6 and 8 as they play happily together or entertain themselves too with various toys.

My dad, brother, sister-in-law, Mr and Minxy
....spend time with family?
Mondays we usually head to my Grans house where the Mini Mes and I also meet up with my Mum, Aunt, cousins etc for a catch up and lots of treats. We also pop in to the Mr's parent sometimes at weekends or my parents and quite often we will meet my parents at the pub or in town. We get on well.
....socialise with friends?
This doesn't seem to happen that often anymore unfortunately! A lot of them have younger children which need them at home and prevent them going out or drinking, don't have funds for one reason or another, or don't live close enough to see on a regular basis. I do see some good friends on the school run for a brief natter almost daily and catch up with close ones usually on a Thursday at the local soft play after school which I enjoy.
....prepare an evening meal juggling a baby/toddler bedtime routine?
I don't have this problem anymore but I used to put them in the play pen with some toys or in the highchair with some chunky crayons to doodle with. Slow cookers are the way forward though with small children.
....deep clean your house?
It never really needs a 'deep clean'. I do a few litle bits each day and that keeps on top of it all. I have a sort through old clothes and toys around every 12 weeks on a weekend.
....do the food shopping?
Recently the Mr has been going to Tesco on a Sunday for the weekly shop but I do sometimes do it in the evening online. If we need some fresh bread, milk etc then me or the Mr will pop to Co-op.
....bulk ironing?
I don't! I never iron, well unless something looks particularly creased. The kids wear polo tops for school as does the Mr for work and they don't need ironing.
Summary
Being organised is key. A little and often makes tasks seem easy and you wont end up with a big load sitting there with your name on, waiting to be cleaned!
I generally clean the bathrooms and change bedding every Friday, wash up and hoover daily which includes cleaning all work tops etc. Write a to do list if needs be!

Yummy Mummy Meme

Ooo! It seems as though I have been tagged by the lovely Vikki from Love from Mummy to complete the Yummy Mummy Meme. This Meme is based around the yummy side of being a parent which was started back at the beginning of June by Busy Bee Mummy Bex

Lets begin...

What is the first thing you do when you wake up?

Based on Monday-Friday the first time I'm woken is around 7am when the Mr kisses my forehead before he heads off to work. I really don't object to being woken like this, infact I LOVE it and it makes me smile knowing that I am loved (even when snoring and without a thick layer of foundation and eye liner on!). The second time is either by the kids around 7.40 or my alarm around this time too. I tend to sit up, check my phone to see the time and then get out of bed to begin the day.
If it's a Saturday or Sunday and I'm woken before 8 then I tend to say 'Rarrr' and hide under the pillow for a few minutes first!

Do you shower daily? Are you an early morning shower or evening bath type?

I shower daily before bed so I'm fresh when climbing into my lovely kingsize bed with memory foam mattress, heaven! I do like to bath though and I enjoy a Lush bath bomb thrown in too. I always shower after a bath though to rinse off properly.

Do you wear make-up daily?

I will not leave the house without it. I don't wear a lot and I go for a natural-ish look but I feel almost naked bare faced. A bit of foundation (I try not to look like a wotsit), mascara, eye liner and clear gloss are my daily essentials.

What's in your make-up bag?

A fair bit and then I have a huge stash for at home too ...oops. My little pink zebra print bag contains foundation, powder, 2 blushs, 3/4 lip glosses, mascara, 3 liquid liners and a pencil, pencil sharpener and a brow pencil.

When you're having a slummy mummy day what do you normally wear?

If I'm home all day or feeling unwell I will usually chill out in leggings and a casual top or print. I don't really have many slummy mummy days though, it would be typical that the family would turn up as a surprise or something and see me in zombie mode!

Nails - how often do you get them done?

Every 4 weeks I have a fresh set of acrylics put on. I don't go for french tip or clear I always go for funky ones with gems and nail art. I like to make a bit of a statement with them.

Your top tip for tired eyes?

More sleep or sunglasses!? I don't really have any! Makeup should do the trick and my eyes are quite sensitive so I avoid putting any food like cucmber near them as they end up looking worse!

Are you a Starbucks or a Costa Coffee kind of girl?

I don't drink tea or coffee but I do love a hot chocolate with flakes dunked in to melt. Nomnom! Costa it is.

How many children do you have/want & why?
I have 2 children, Minxy aged 8 and Jamster aged 6. I would love a baby, I've wanted another for a good few years, but the Mr has said no and as it takes two to tango so I have to deal with his decision. Nagging day in and out hasn't worked boo!

Where is your favourite place to shop for babies/children's clothes?

I really enjoy a spree in H&M. They have a fantastic range, are great value and have a lot of the Mini Mes fav characters on their clothing ie Star Wars and Hello Kitty so I can't go wrong there. They wash well and seem hard wearing - bonus.

Flats or heels? Your everyday shoes are...?

I'm 6ft as it is so heels are a big no no for me. Plus I can't walk in them without looking like a hippo on stilts or bambi on ice! Ballet style pumps are perfect.

Being Pregnant Meme

I have been invited by Trinket herself from Trinket of Treasure to partake in her 'Being Pregnant' meme. The idea is to answer a few questions, link up and share the meme with a few friends to build up some info on what people feel about pregnancy.

THE QUESTIONS

What was your first reaction when you found out that you were/are pregnant and why do you feel you reacted in that way?

I felt pregnant before I had it confirmed by a test. I could sense it somehow. I was only one day late which was a regular occurance at the time but I felt different, maternal almost so I wasn't particularly surprised when the 'Pregnant' word appeared on the Clear Blue digital stick. I was nervous though and slightly concerned how my partner would react and my parents. I had just turned 18 and was living at home. Despite being with the father from the age of 13 it wasn't ideal, I was on the pill afterall. I was happy though, knowing a little person was growing in my tummy!

What major changes did/does being pregnant bring to your life?

I had sickness to the extent I was signed off work with dehydration. I hated the swollen ankles and stretch marks and going in and out of hospital with suspected pre-eclampsia. However I loved the planning, shopping, scans, feeling the baby kick and watching my tummy wiggle around as she moved about inside. I was mature for my age anyway, I never drank like my friends at the time and I had a job and car. I did have to grow up a bit though and I moved out of my parents into a rented home when I left work on maternity leave.

What did/do you like or enjoy about being pregnant the most?

My hair was wonderful and skin was fantastic when pregnant. I also used pregnancy as an excuse to eat whatever I fancied although shifting the weight afterwards was a lot harder than I expected! I enjoyed building a bond with my child before I even met her and feeling that my body was incredible to create something so loved.

What did/do you dislike the most about being pregnant?

The sickness and being tired all of the time was horrendous. It had a big impact on my social life and I lost many friends when pregnant. I found it really difficult to get comfortable and sleep too.

What are your overall thoughts and feelings on being pregnant?

Generally I loved it and I would LOVE another child although the Mr doesn't want any kids of his own *sob*. Maybe if I pester him for another few years he will eventually give in? Wishful thinking!!

I am inviting the following people to join in with this meme if they would like to:

The Boy and Me
Multiple Mummy
Mummy vs Work
Mummy Mishaps
Attachment Mummy

THE RULES (please copy):
  • Please answer the following questions in depth.YOU’RE NOT ALLOWED TO LEAVE ANY DETAILS OUT (only joking). But, please do write as much as you want, keeping in mind the joys of life are inthe finer details.
  • Invite three or more women and link them to your blog post. As I don’t know many mothers or pregnant women, I’d appreciate it if you could invite as many mothers/expecting women you know to participate. But please remember you don't have to be invited to take part. THE MORE THE MERRIER!
  • Leave a comment about what you think of this meme and a link to your blogpost HERE
  • For lovelies that have been pregnant more than once, answerthe question in regards to your first pregnancy.

Monday Me - New Link Up

Now that I've been blogging a few months (wow that has gone quickly) and I've joined in with a fair few link ups I thought it was about time I created my own!

Every Monday I will be sharing something that I have done during the previous week. Not the kids, the Mr or the poochie but little, old tall, young me. It could be details on a night out with my friends, something at work, a new course, a movie review I have seen and loved, a book I've read, pictures from a pampering session, new hair cut, pretty nails, some info on a gorgeous new perfume or top I've purchased... anyway I'm sure you see what I mean it's all about things for ourselves whatever that may be!

Although it's fab to be a parent the fact that we are also individuals is often forgotten but it's important to have some time to yourself or 'me' time, even if it's half an hour in the garden with a cuppa - we all need a break.

So, if you could create a post or just add the badge to something suitable and link up back here on Monday that would be lovely. I look forward to reading what great things you have been doing for you. You can use the hash tag #MondayMe on Twitter so I can find your posts.

I've even made a little badge for you too *fingers crossed it works* (after a long struggle!) ....
