Special K Granola *Review and Giveaway*

I've been quite naughty when it comes to breakfast recently and I either don't have any at all or resort to eating the wrong things while on the move... chocolate fudge cake is breakfast, right?!

It's really not a good idea but sometimes you just get into a bad routine which I unfortunately have done.

Special K Granola is one of the few cereals that actually appeals to me, to be honest there are some that look like cardboard aren't there, and with its delicious five grain recipe, made from Oats, Barley, Wheat, Spelt, and Rye I was tempted to make the time in the morning to give it a go and drop my

McVitie's Breakfast Biscuits

I'm sure I'm not alone when it comes to skipping breakfast. Many of us have buses and trains to catch to work or long journeys in the car. We have children who can cause chaos in the morning wanting to watch their favourite shows rather than putting on uniform and heading to nursery and school. Demanding new-borns need feeds and pets need walking. With my family and work commitments, studies and efforts to lose weight I don't always have time to sit with a bowl of cereal or slices of toast in the morning.

Breakfast however is known as the most important meal of the day which is true. You need food for energy to help keep your brain functioning properly so a meal upon waking is vital. Missing breakfast can often result in naughty mid-morning snacks or the urge to raid the fridge like Pac Man in the evening. Neither of which are beneficial to our bodies!

Having something healthy, filling and convenient to take on the go would be ideal for me and help to ensure I get the fuel required to complete my daily tasks. McVitie’s have cleverly created biscuits which are easy to pop in your pocket or bag to eat wherever you may go. They are perfect for the parent, student or employee who are busy from the moment their alarm beeps at the crack of dawn.

Made with porridge oats and containing Vitamin B1, B2, B3, B6, B12, D and Iron they are a nutritional alternative to the conventional breakfast. They don't contain artificial colours or flavours and are a great source of fibre. They release energy slowly through the AM hours to provide what you need to get the housework done, to workout at the gym or complete whatever else you may be doing.

McVitie's Breakfast Biscuits

McVitie's Breakfast Biscuits come in 3 flavours of Oat and Honey, Apple Sultana and Cinnamon and Red Berries, the latter of which we received. Each box contains 6 packets of 4 biscuits with each biscuit being only 57 calories and containing 1.8g of fat. I found them really tasty and handy to have. They have helped to ensure I get fed however hectic my day may be!

Breakfast - The Gallery

After the the Mini Mes are awake and dressed they pop downstairs to the table with sleepy eyes for breakfast. Toast pops up with a bang, butter is smeared on top followed by... Marmite.

There is no question here, we are all lovers!

The theme this week is Breakfast.

My week that was... 1st-7th July

Sunday
After a lovely lay in I collected the kids from their dad's house and we went to see Ice Age 4, what a fab movie! Afterwards we met up with my parents in town for some lunch and we enjoyed a lovely homemade ham and chicken pie for dinner.

Monday and Tuesday
Not alot happend today really! The usual school and work routine and an evening indoors due to the rain.

Wednesday
I was feeling rather bleughh today, as were the kids when they got up for school, so we ended up having a duvet day with some movies. There seem to be a few bugs about at the moment so I didn't want to risk them being poorly at school. Plus with it being art week it wasn't as though they were missing out on anything particularly educating today. Well that's what I thought anyway. Better safe than sorry!

Thursday
The weather today made a bit of a turnaround and there was actually some sunshine to be seen yay! In the morning before work I enjoyed a lovely panini and cake with my aunt in a local cafe called The Hideout and after school the Mini Mes and I popped to Co-op for ice creams. The Mini Mes had induction day at school and were pleased with their new teachers. Jamster has the same lovely one from year one and Minxy has a pleasant male teacher. After dinner we all went out for an hour walk with Spartan in the fields.

Friday
Some friends of the family got married today and we were invited to the evening party to celebrate. However we ended up staying in and having an early night as both of the Mini Mes were feeling a bit rough again. Boo hoo!

Saturday
The Mini Mes headed off to see their dad at 10am so the Mr and I made the most of some child free time. We ended up going to see Spiderman at the cinema and having a curry in the evening at a lovely restaurant.

Kellogg's Mini Max Review

After spotting a post asking for families to test the new Mini Max cereal from Kellogg's I quickly applied (we go through cereal like hot cakes) and we were lucky enough to be sent not only one, but ten boxes of this lovely cereal to review - wowza! Now that took some serious cupboard reshuffling!

Upon their arrival I instantly wanted to take a peek inside so I opened a box and grabbed a few to scoff test. They are small squares, like parcels with a frosting/sugar coating on one side. Delicious and crunchy but with a sweet taste too, I found them to be very nice indeed. I was a little worried they would be dry and like cardboard in texture but I thoroughly enjoyed them and I've been having them for breakfast ever since.

The kids, like me, are rather nosey inquisitive so when I had collected them from school and they had seen my huge delivery they wanted to try some too. They were straight into the box like vultures grabbing large handfulls even for their tiny hands and they loved them - to the extent I had to say that was enough and remove the box before they would be too filled for dinner!

The following morning we tried the cereal in milk and they kept their shape well. They didn't go sloppy and the sweet layer remained attached and didn't dissolve away into the bowl. I've since had them with natural yogurt and a variety of fruit and they are nice with both also.

I had a look at the nutritional information and I was quite pleased that a 40g serving contains 148 calories (7% of the adult daily recommended amount) 7g of sugar and 0.8g of fat. They are filling and I don't have the urge to snack mid morning.

I felt happy offering these to my children for breakfast as they not only liked the taste but they are made with wholegrain, are low in salt and high in fibre. I wasn't so keen that sugar was listed second in the ingredients list or that there is beef gelatin in them but overall I was pleased with the content and there are no E numbers to be found thankfully.

Kellogg's describe this cereal as :

'Just the right balance between a breakfast you will want to give them, and a taste they'll love'

which I completely agree with!

As we all enjoyed Mini Max and we were provided with a great number of boxes to sample, even the neighbours had some and they liked them too from their feedback, we no longer need to have lots of alternatives filling the kitchen shelves which is always a good thing (more space for my wine stash?)

There is a chocolate version available for the sweeter tooth too and with a RRP of £2.69 for a 560g box we feel it's good value - that's 14 servings per box!

If you would like more information on Kellogg's Mini Max you can head over to the Kellogg's website.

Have you tried it yet? What are your thoughts of breakfast cereal for children?

*I was sent Mini Max to review. My views are my own based on my experience of the product*
