Spaghetti with the Yeti *Review and Giveaway*

This brightly illustrated story follows a young boy named George as he travels up a mountain path in search of a yeti with only his map, a woolly hat and a tin of spaghetti! He meets a variety monsters on the way, each of which offer advice on what to feed the yeti should he find it, in this quirky and humourous 30 paged rhyming paperback.

Spaghetti with the Yeti is the first in a series from Adam and Charlotte Guillain with Marshmallows for Martians set for release in spring next year. The book is very descriptive and the changes in font style and size really help to add emphasis. The pictures, by award winner Lee Wildish, fill the pages and are wonderfully drawn with lots of colour to keep little ones engaged.

As soon as the packaging was removed Jamster settled by my side for a read, pointing out all of the detail in the beautiful imagery as the story progressed. The book teaches little ones that you should follow your beliefs and not to give up, even if you don't succeed at first and it is ideal for children over the age of three.

Will George get to eat with the Yeti or be eaten himself? You will have to find out for yourself!

The Hundred Decker Bus *Book Review*

Featuring a very big fold-out page and lots of intricate, coloured pictures this book is a fun read for little ones. The story follows the adventure of a bus driver who is bored of his every day routine of a cup of tea, popping on his jacket and driving down the same route seeing the same people. He decides to take a little road that he hadn't noticed before and therefore he explores new places and meets new characters on the way.

The bus is extended in size to make space for all of the passengers, travels across water on a ferry and receives assistance when it comes into difficulty with smoke billowing out from under the bonnet... Where is ends up you, I'll leave for you to find out!

 

This debut picture book from Mike Smith is packed with detailed drawings and has new things to find with each read. It also helps to develop counting skills as children can count all of the different decks up to 100 and shows that with teamwork anything is achievable.


The Mini Mes enjoyed the book.

Pale Henry and Stuart the Bug Eating Man - Book reviews and giveaway!

Published by My Little Big Town, the Tiny Twisted Tales collection is a range of quirky yet entertaining stories for children from Calvin Innes, two of which we received for the Mini Mes to read.

Jamster loves everything that is disgusting and gross being a 6 year old boy so Stuart the Bug Eating Man was perfect for him! This funny poem follows Stuart who loves to scoff bugs, much to his family's horror, who's disturbing habit results in a new job and great wealth with it! The book has a great hidden message; whatever your talent is you can pursue it and become successful regardless of what others may think, which I think is valid for little ones to learn.

The book is suitable for children over 5 and Jamster found it easy to read himself. The language is descriptive with great illustrations of bugs across the pages and cats too, which are based on the authors own pets. Many a time did Jamster (and Minxy) say 'Eww' between giggles of laughter at the humourous story. They really seemed to enjoy how unique it was in comparison to other tales we have read before. I feel these would encourage reluctant readers to pick up a book due to the strange storyline!

Pale Henry is a book based on a young boy aged 8 who has spent his childhood hidden away in the attic as he is too shy and afraid to play outside. One day he decides he has had enough of the darkness and being alone so he ventures outside realising just how great it is to have fun with others. The story will help to encourage children to build friendships and step into the unknown by helping them to understand it's not as difficult as it seems and a lot of fun can be had when you try new things. It also helps children to feel that being different from the norm is fine and that if you don't want to join in every time that is OK too. This story features more imagery of spiders and bugs and is another interesting yet original read. This poem is suitable for children aged 7+ but both of the Mini Mes enjoyed this story and were able to read it themselves.
