Get Well Soup Campaign

Nothing beats the winter sniffles and flu like a bowl of warm soup and now you can treat a loved one to a limited edition personalised can! Heinz will then donate time to entertain the children in hospital and hospices over the Christmas period, with the help of national children’s charity, Starlight, with their 'Get Well' Soup campaign.

Starlight brightens the lives of more than 500,000 sick children every year and this year’s hospital pantomime, Dick Whittington, is set to provide lots of fun for those that are ill and suffering this Christmas period across the nation. Heinz aim to raise 3.000 minutes worth of entertainment to fund performances of the pantomime in 65 wards in the UK.

Sally Meekins from Heinz adds “The performance of Dick Whittington is so fun and engaging, we are sure the kids are going to love it! It’s great to know that together with Starlight, Heinz fans are bringing a bit of sparkle to children’s hospital wards this Christmas.”

Heinz Hot Sauces

I do love to experiment in the kitchen and give ordinary meals a bit of a boost with lots of herbs and spices, so I was pleased to be offered the new Hot Sauce range from Heinz to review.

The sauces come in three different heat levels of medium, hot and very hot and in a variety of flavours so there is something to match every dish and to liven up your meal time.

Chipotle and garlic was my favourite. It isn't too hot but it had a lovely smoky flavour and it is great for splashing on meat for a bit of heat without being overpowering. We used this in some chilli con carne too which was delicious!

The Mr preferred the hotter versions of Green Jalapeno which is perfect to spice up pizza, pasta or soup and Yellow Habanero which we both enjoyed with stir fried pork and noodles as a recipe card supplied suggested.

Simple Spicy Stir Fry

Ingredients
250g roast pork, cut into lardons
3 spring onions, finely sliced
2 celery stalks, finely sliced
1 carrot, peeled and finely grated
2 tbsp vegetable oil
1 slice fresh ginger, crushed
1 garlic clove, peeled and crushed
400g Annoy straight to wok noodles
200g bean sprouts, rinsed
10ml Heinz Hot Sauce - Yellow Habanero

Method
Heat the wok on a high heat and add the oil
Add all of the vegetables and stir-fry for 2 minutes
Add the pork lardons and stir-fry for 1 minute
Add noodles to the wok and toss well over a high heat
Take off the heat and stir through Heinz Hot Sauce - Yellow Habanero

We really enjoyed this recipe. Yellow Habanero is the hottest of the Hot Sauce range but it was still fine for me as only a small quantity is used. We skipped adding the celery and left the pork as diced as we prefer it that way but I adjusted the cooking time accordingly. This is a meal that we would have again as it takes very little effort or time yet is packed with veg and flavour.

You can use the sauces to enhance your every day meals by splashing a small amount over your food or you can use it within recipes to compliment the flavour. A little goes a long way as you only need a very tiny amount. The colours of the sauces are really attractive and the bottles allow you to measure or splash the sauce on with ease.

I'm looking forward to trying these with family in an upcoming Mexican night with fajitas, salsa, nachos and various dips. I'll see just how much heat they can handle!

Soup Season begins!

We often say that there are not enough hours in the day but with the clocks going back tonight (early hours of tomorrow) we will have an extra hour to ourselves!

How will you spend yours?

The days will get darker earlier and with Autumn well underway it's the perfect time to enjoy a lovely bowl of warm soup. It's a great winter warmer especially as soup season starts here.

Heinz Cream of Tomato soup is a fav for our family and one of your 5 a day! We received 2 tins and this quirky 13 hours clock to enjoy this weekend and I intend to sit back with some crusty bread to dunk in it. It's comforting food and great if you have a cold or flu to snuggle up with under a blanket on the sofa with a movie.

How will you spend your extra hour?

Meal Planning Monday

We have a lovely delivery due this morning to cook up three meals using Heinz new sauces (hot hot HOT!) and the rest of the meals are planned by the Mr this week. I think I'll throw some slow cooked recipes back in for next week though as I really enjoyed those, especially the lamb stew with dumplings!

We had a fantastic Greek night at the weekend. I made Baklava for the first time and it was fab. You can view the pictures over on Instagram if you fancy a peek (username theminimesandme).

This weeks planner...

Bacon carbonara
Spicy Stir Fry
Fiery Chilli con carne
Mexican soup
Fish, wedges and carrots

As I recently won a £50 Pizza Express voucher in a Twitter party we will be heading there on Saturday for a family meal out and Sunday we will probably have roast lamb.

What's on your menu this week?

Heinz FIVE Beanz

To celebrate the launch of another delicious Heinz product we were sent a Tea for Grown Upz package to enjoy ...and enjoy we did!

The package included a delicious variety of items from Tesco and a mini hamper with a tin of Alphabetti Spaghetti (for the Mini Mes) and a tin of FIVE Beanz for the Mr and I. I shuffled around the meal planner a little as I was keen to give them a go!

Heinz FIVE Beanz contains Haricot, Pinto, Cannellini, Borlotti and Red Kidney beans. Combined with the smooth tomato sauce within every tin, each portion is one of your five a day. Therefore they are not only tasty but nutritious too.

They are naturally low in fat, high in fibre and as there are no artificial flavours, colours or preservatives they are ideal for both the grown ups and little people too - even those that are weight conscious!

There is more variation in flavour when compared to Heinz Beanz. We thought they were really nice and a pleasant twist on the classic favourite. They still have the same great taste and low calories (87 per 100g) so I intend to have these quite frequently. We had them as an accompaniment with some juicy organic steak, sweet potato and swede but they are perfect on toast, with chips, as a quick snack or in main meals like casseroles and Chilli. I will pop these in the next one I make! (You can read my Chilli recipe here)

Heinz held a Tea Time for Grown-Upz event in London on 6th September  to celebrate the release of FIVE Beanz.

Sophie Ellis Bexter and friends joined 120 guests to taste a delicious menu including the new product. With 250KG of FIVE Beanz being shipped in especially for the event guests could choice from a yummy menu:
