Attitude of a Pre-Teen

Love it or hate it, kids speak their minds.
They don't always think about what they are saying and sometimes have little care for others feelings.
This week I have seen some great examples of this, most of which have been rather amusing too...

Minxy decided she wanted to play cinemas so she picked a film, created her posters and tickets and announced that Jack the Giant Slayer would begin at 2pm sharp.
Jamster wanted to join in so asked if he could play

Minxy: "You can be on bin duty afterwards and tidy up. But that is it."

How kind!

My car seems to have become a little untidy lately with an abundance of magazines and food wrappers in the back seats. I decided to grab a carrier bag to empty it out...

Minxy: "What are you doing mum?"
Me: "Just going to remove some of the junk from in the car quickly."
Minxy: "Well you will need more than just the one bag then won't you!"

It's wasn't that messy!
Well, perhaps it was.

While discussing how quickly the year seemed to be going we soon moved on to the subject of things to look forward to during 2014.

Minxy: "Does Jamster really have to come to Kefalonia with us?"
Me: "Well yes, he is part of the family, don't be mean."
Minxy: "I'd rather have a vacation to heaven than go anywhere with that annoying brother!"

She has become such a diva!

You know you have a tween when...

Minxy is such a fantastic little lady the majority of the time; she is helpful, kind, affectionate and caring. However,  there is a side of her that is packed with attitude and rudeness that doesn't appeal quite so much! She has entered the 'tween' stage.

I feel like a broken record when it comes to her TV and stereo, shouting 'turn that down' endlessly before what only can be described as a stampede of elephants fall through the ceiling and land on the kitchen table. I now know all the lyrics to every One Direction song.... is that a good thing?

I pray the wind doesn't change or she will stuck frowning or scowling forever, arms crossed over tightly that go perfectly with the pre-teen mood swings and grumpiness.

'Huh', tuts and sighs are her new way to communicate. I'm not sure I like this foreign language!
She also prefers to shout than talk, I don't think my ears can't handle the volume for much longer, and it's only just the beginning.

The stairs may require new carpet if she continues to stamp her way up and down them so frequently. Possibly even new floor boards if it gets any harder.


Help, I'm a mum to a tween, get me out of here.... but there is no escape, not for a few years at least.

Minxy is at the age where if she isn't busy bossing someone around she is stomping up stairs and slamming doors behind her before blaring her stereo. Yes, she is infact 8. Teens come early? You would be surprised, quite a few mums I know are going through similar with their kids the same age too. Eeek!

Jamster loves Horrid Henry and after reading quite a few stories with him from the collection recently I've started to think Minxy is the female version sometimes! Don't get me wrong she is my little princess and the majority of the time she is so loving and thoughtful that it's amazes me... but she can go from angel to devil quicker than the Mini Mes rush to the front door when they hear the ice cream van outside!

Recent things lil Miss has said

"All the mums here smell like elderly people"

"That lady has a massive butt"

"They should be on The Biggest Loser"


Trying to get a photo of her in her new summer dresses was quite challenging!

But then the next minute....

"I saved you my last cookie from my lunchbox mummy because you are simply the best." She said as she presented me with a daisy and a note too.

It's the moments like this that make being a parent lovely.

I find her attitude quite amusing for now, its so over the top and dramatic. She reminds me of myself at times the way she speaks her mind... Ooops!
